Harry Potter: Sorting The Houses

In the world of witchcraft and wizardry, one of the most famous schools, Hogwarts, has produced some of the most famous witches and wizards of them all. However, before the fame, came the school, and within the school, the Houses that shaped and molded these individuals.

 

These houses are Gryffindor, founded by Godric Gryffindor; Hufflepuff, founded by Helga Hufflepuff; Ravenclaw, founded by Rowena Ravenclaw; and Slytherin, founded by Salazar Slytherin. Each of these houses have different traits and qualities that they are distinguished by. What house would you want to be in?

 

The house of Gryffindor values bravery, daring, chivalry, and nerve. Its animal is the lion and its colors are scarlet and gold. Their ghost is Nearly Headless Nick. Located in one of the tallest towers, the Gryffindor House is guarded by the Fat Lady portrait. Fire is the corresponding element here. Many famous Gryffindors have come from here including: Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore, and even Minerva McGonagall.

 

The house of Hufflepuff values patience, dedication, loyalty, and fair play. Its animal is the badger and its colors are black and yellow. The Fat Friar is their ghost. Earth is the corresponding element and we find the dormitories somewhere in between the castles kitchens in the basement. It’s a cozy and welcoming abode with round doors, big armchairs, and underground tunnels that lead to the lodging areas. Famous Hufflepuffs include Hengist of Woodcroft, the founder of Hogsmeade, and Newt Scamander, the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

 

Ravenclaw is a house valuing intelligence, knowledge, creativity, and wit. Its animal is the eagle and its colors are blue and bronze. The associated element is air. The dormitories for Ravenclaw sit on a far west side tower and instead of requiring a password, the students must answer a riddle each time they go in! The ghost of Ravenclaw is the Grey Lady, daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw herself. Famous Ravenclaws include Gilderoy Lockhart, Luna Lovegood, and Garrick Oliivander.

 

The infamous Slytherin house values ambition, leadership, self-preservation, resourcefulness, and cunning. Its animal is the serpent and its colors are green and silver. Slytherin has the greatest number of dark wizards coming from among its ranks. The house ghost is the Bloody Baron and the element associated is water. The dormitories are located through the dungeons and are bare with rough stone walls and silver lamps. The common room lies beneath the Black Lake and the halls are long and low to the ground. Famous Slytherins include Merlin, Tom Riddle, and Draco Malfoy.
