WHAT IS THE PENNSYLVANIA PLEASURE WALKING HORSE ASSOCIATION Founded in 1982, the Pennsylvania Pleasure Walking Horse Association (PPWHA) was formed to promote the flat shod pleasure Tennessee Walking Horse. We are a club for all pleasure walking horse enthusiasts, from trail riders to those who enjoy the show ring atmosphere. We all share a common goal of sound horsemanship and a family oriented association where our children have a chance to grow to become excellent equestrians and learn to share our passion for the Tennessee Walking Horse. The club, through our high point program, offers a full show schedule throughout the North East and parts of the South. Our trail riders, thru calculation of miles ridden, are also honored at our annual membership and high point awards banquet. PPWHA also holds organized trail rides and clinics for the enjoyment and education of our members. Our sponsorship of horse shows has grown to include our One Day Fun Show in June, and new for 2009 The Garden State Gaited Celebration held at the new N.J. Dream Park in July. Our North American Plantation Classic Horse Show and Gettysburg Battlefield Ride is possibly the largest show in the North East for the flat shod smooth gaited horse held on Labor Day weekend. We also participate at the yearly Horse Expo held at the Harrisburg Farm Show Complex in late February, where we can expose the tens of thousands of people who attend, to our fabulous horses and a chance to learn about them from our knowledgeable owners and members. While, as stated above, the PPWHA was formed to promote the flat shod Tennessee Walking Horse, our membership has grown to include owners of other four-beat gaited, smooth riding breeds. These include the Mountain Horse, Racking Horse and the Spotted Saddle Horse. We welcome all horse enthusiasts that share our commitment to helping preserve and protect our horses from the abuses in the show ring that some other organizations choose to ignore. We affiliate all of our shows with the National Walking Horse Association, a national organization with a zero tolerance to abuse of horses in the show ring. The PPWHA is known throughout the walking horse world as one of the oldest and certainly most committed to helping preserve, protect and promote the pleasure Tennessee Walking Horse. We have a well rounded membership which consists of trail riders, show enthusiasts, trainers and amateurs who have helped cement our place in the history of the Tennessee Walking Horse. Please take the time to explore our web site where you can find information and forms for our high point awards, clinics, horse shows and membership.
